Herald

Terms of Use

These terms cover your use of the Herald app and this website. Herald is made by Appsolutely Ltda, Brazil (“Appsolutely”, “we”, “us”). By downloading or using Herald, you agree to them.

The short version

  • Herald is for personal use. Read, listen, learn, share the cards it makes for you.
  • The first two chapters of every story are free. Herald Pro unlocks the rest.
  • Herald Pro renews automatically until you cancel in your Apple Account settings.
  • Apple handles payments and refunds.
  • Herald retells history and scripture to teach. It is not religious, academic or legal advice.
  • Brazilian law applies, and so do the consumer protections where you live.

The agreement

Your license to use the app comes from Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”), with Appsolutely as the licensor. These terms add the details specific to Herald. If they conflict with the Standard EULA, the Standard EULA wins for anything about the license of the app. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle data.

Who can use Herald

Herald is rated 13+ on the App Store. If you are under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, use Herald with the permission of a parent or guardian, who accepts these terms for you.

What Herald is

Herald is an educational app that tells famous stories in short, narrated, illustrated chapters, with maps, explainers, quizzes, boss battles, hero cards, streaks, a daily edition and widgets. We add stories and features over time, and we may change, improve or remove parts of Herald, including content, when we need to. Stories download from our servers, so you need an internet connection to get them. Once a story is on your iPhone, it plays offline.

Herald Pro subscriptions

The first two chapters of every story are free. Herald Pro unlocks every chapter of every story, unlimited hearts, boss battles and the full hero collection.

  • Plans. Herald Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, offered monthly and yearly. The App Store shows the price in your currency before you buy.
  • Payment. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
  • Renewal. Your subscription renews automatically for the same period and price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
  • Free trials. Where a free trial is offered, the paywall shows its length and the price that follows. If you don’t cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription starts and renews as above. Any unused part of a free trial ends when you buy a subscription.
  • Cancel or change plans anytime in your Apple Account settings: on iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. In Herald, Settings then Subscription then Manage subscription opens the same page. When you cancel, Herald Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies, at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can’t issue refunds ourselves.
  • Price changes follow Apple’s rules, including asking for your consent when Apple requires it.
  • Restore purchases in Settings, then Subscription, on any iPhone signed in to the same Apple Account.
  • Devices. To protect the stories, we limit how many devices can download stories with one subscription.

Nothing here limits the rights you have under consumer law, including the Brazilian Consumer Defense Code (Código de Defesa do Consumidor).

About the content

Herald retells stories from the Bible, Roman history and the lives of the saints to teach and to entertain. The narration, scene descriptions, explainers and illustrations are our own retelling and interpretation. Dates, places and numbers follow mainstream scholarship, and many are approximate or debated. Herald isn’t religious instruction, academic advice or a substitute for reading the sources.

  • Scripture quotations in English come from the World English Bible, and in Portuguese from the Bíblia Portuguesa Mundial. Both are in the public domain.
  • Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL), and Natural Earth.

Intellectual property

Herald, its name, icon and logo, and everything in it (text, narration, illustrations, music, maps, explainers, cards and design) belong to Appsolutely or its licensors and are protected by law. Public domain texts stay in the public domain. We give you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use Herald on Apple devices you own or control, under the Standard EULA. You may share the cards and images Herald creates for sharing, as Herald creates them.

Acceptable use

Please don’t:

  • copy, download, extract, scrape or redistribute Herald’s stories, audio or art outside the app;
  • get around the download checks, App Attest, device limits or the Pro gate, or help others do it;
  • reverse engineer or modify the app, except where the law allows it despite this term;
  • overload, probe or attack our servers, or use bots and scripts against them;
  • use Herald’s content to train or fine-tune machine-learning models;
  • use Herald in a way that breaks the law or the rights of others.

If you do, we may suspend downloads for that copy of Herald.

Disclaimer

We work hard to make Herald accurate and reliable, but we provide it “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we don’t promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free or fit for a particular purpose. Some laws don’t allow these exclusions, and then they don’t apply to you.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Appsolutely isn’t liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data or profits, arising from your use of Herald. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid for Herald in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that can’t be excluded by law, including under the Brazilian Consumer Defense Code.

Ending use

You can stop using Herald at any time by deleting it. Remember to cancel Herald Pro in your Apple Account settings, because deleting the app doesn’t cancel it. We may suspend or end access for anyone who breaks these terms.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Herald changes. We update the date at the top, and for significant changes we tell you in the app or on the App Store page before they apply. If you keep using Herald after that, the new terms apply.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Brazil. Disputes go to the courts of the city where Appsolutely has its registered office. If you are a consumer, you may also go to the courts where you live, and you keep the mandatory protections of the law of your country.
