Herald
How can we help?
Quick answers first. If yours isn’t here, write to us. We read every message.
Subscription
How do I restore my purchase?
Open Herald, tap Profile, then the Settings gear. Under Subscription, tap Restore purchases. Use the same Apple Account you subscribed with. The paywall has a Restore link too.
How do I cancel or change my plan?
Subscriptions belong to your Apple Account, so you cancel there, not in Herald. On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Herald. While Herald Pro is active, Herald’s Settings also has Manage subscription, which opens the same page.
Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge. You keep Herald Pro until the end of the period you paid for.
Can I get a refund?
Apple processes every payment, so refunds go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can’t issue refunds ourselves.
How does the free trial work?
Where a free trial is offered, the paywall shows how long it lasts and the price that follows. With notifications on, Herald reminds you two days before the trial ends. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end and you won’t be charged.
What’s free, and what does Pro add?
The first two chapters of every story are free. Herald Pro unlocks every chapter, boss battles, unlimited hearts and the full hero collection.
Downloads and storage
What does “Preparing…” mean?
Herald is bringing the story’s pictures, narration and music to your iPhone. It usually takes a few moments on Wi-Fi. After that, the story opens instantly, even offline. If it stops, check your connection and tap Try again.
Can I read offline?
Yes. Stories you’ve opened stay on your iPhone and play without a connection. Herald also prepares your current and next stories in the background, so they’re ready when you are.
How do I free up space?
Open Settings, then Downloads, then Stories on this iPhone. You see each story and the space it uses. Remove one to free space, or remove all. Your progress stays, and a story downloads again when you open it.
“Herald couldn’t verify this iPhone”
Herald checks that downloads go to a genuine copy of the app. Make sure you’re online and that iOS and Herald are up to date, then try again. If it keeps happening, write to us.
Language and sound
How do I change the language?
Herald follows your iPhone’s language. To pick one, open Settings, then Language, and choose English, Português or Same as phone. Herald restarts to switch. The narration is recorded in English. In Portuguese, all text and subtitles are in Portuguese.
How do I control sound, music and captions?
Open Settings, then Sound and display. Turn Sound and narration, Music, Haptics and Captions on or off. Narration plays even with the silent switch on, like any audio app, so use the volume buttons or turn off Sound and narration.
Habit and widgets
How do I add a widget?
Touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen, tap Edit (or the + button), then Add Widget, and search for Herald. Pick Streak, Next chapter or The Herald (today’s edition). Streak and The Herald also come in Lock Screen sizes. Widgets need iOS 17 or later.
How do daily reminders work?
Open Settings, then Learning, then Daily reminder, and pick morning, midday, evening or night. Herald sends one letter a day, and skips it once you’ve read that day.
How do streak freezes work?
Reaching a streak milestone banks a freeze, up to two. If you miss a day, a freeze covers it automatically and your streak carries on.
Your data
Does my progress sync between devices?
No. Herald has no accounts, so your progress lives on the iPhone where you read. Herald Pro restores on any iPhone signed in to the same Apple Account.
How do I reset my progress?
Open Settings, then Privacy, then Reset progress. This erases chapters, hearts, streaks and hero cards on this iPhone and can’t be undone.
How do I turn tracking on or off?
Open Settings, then Privacy, then Tracking, or use iOS Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Tracking. Herald works the same either way. The Privacy Policy explains what it changes.
How do I turn off usage analytics?
Open Settings, then Privacy, and switch off Share usage analytics. Herald stops sending usage events and session replays to PostHog right away, and works exactly the same. The Privacy Policy explains what they include.
How do I delete my data?
See How to delete your data in the Privacy Policy.
Content
I found a mistake in a story
Thank you. Write to support@readherald.com with the story, the chapter and what you saw. A screenshot helps. You can also use Settings, then Help and about, then Send feedback, which fills in your app version. We fix content quickly, often without an app update.
Where does the text come from?
Scripture quotations come from the World English Bible and, in Portuguese, the Bíblia Portuguesa Mundial, both in the public domain. Roman history follows the ancient sources and mainstream scholarship. The retellings, explainers and art are ours.
